Bilberry Leaf and Chickweed – Two new springtime wonder herbs to help fight allergies, boost your antioxidants, and slim down in time for summer.*

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Chickweed is a perfect springtime herbal drink that helps combat common seasonal conditions like:

Respiratory congestion
Coughs
Mucous build-up.

It’s high in potassium, calcium, magnesium and vitamin C which is a great source of antioxidants to ward off any ailments.

And just before summer arrives it’ll help you slim down as it stimulates your metabolism and digestive system. It also acts as a diuretic and appetite suppressant.

As an added bonus you can prepare a tincture and apply it to any cut, rash, or skin irritation to fight infection and reinvigorate your skin. You can even take a bath in it!

Bilberry leaf is an allergy fighting powerhouse loaded with vitamin C, anthocyanosides, and flavonoids – all excellent sources of antioxidants.

It builds strong blood vessels improving circulation and overall cardiovascular health

It helps control blood sugar levels reducing the body’s glucose response after sugary meals making it a great drink for diabetics.

It’s high in vitamin A which improves vision and prevents further retinal degeneration.

As a cleansing diuretic it aids in weight loss and it even has a great berry/grape taste. Add a hearty teaspoon to any green, white, or black tea to sweeten without needing sugar and boost your overall health.

We recommend three cups a day of each herb (stopping if you get a stomach ache, a potential side effect of over consumption) – 2 teaspoons per cup of boiled water and steeped for 10 minutes minimum. You can leave the leaves in all day as these herbs don’t go bitter. Pour over ice for a cool, crisp brew.

*Herbal remedies, though safe, aren’t for everyone. Please consult your physician first before self-treating any medical issues to see that you aren’t allergic, or that there won’t be any interference with medication you may be taking.
